No WiFi/Wireless on new laptop/fresh install on Windows 11 24H2

WARNING: Modifying your registry can be risky. Before proceeding, back up your registry or create a system restore point. Follow these instructions carefully and at your own risk.

A few of our new laptops were having a consistent issue with their wireless drivers, regardless of model. Which we later discovered was down to the new installation of Windows 11 24H2.

The wifi/wireless internet connection would drop straight away, although the driver was present it would simply not show any networks.

Fortunately we have been able to find a solution and get the wifi back up and running.

The fix is as follows:

Open the Registry Editor: Type regedit in the Start menu search bar and click on the Registry Editor shortcut.

Navigate to the following key: Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Wcmsvc

Locate and edit the "DependOnService" key: This key defines the dependencies for the Wcmsvc service.

Remove the last line: The Value Data should be:

RpcSs
NSI

  • Save Changes: Click “ok” to save changes

  • Restart Computer: Restart your machine for the changes to take effect.

This helped resolve the Wifi issue that was plaguing our new machines running Windows 11 24H2. Hopefully this guide will be able to get everyone back online with their Wi-fi connectivity issues resolved!
